Arsenal are set to lose Germany international star Mesut Ozil on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who comfortably defeated AFC Bournemouth 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the top-flight on Saturday, risked losing the central midfielder this summer transfer window with Ozil having less than one year remaining on his contract in North London.

The 28-year-old, who has 86 international caps for his country, has played the full 90 minutes in The Gunners’ four league fixtures so far this term – but has failed to score or provide an assist.

Ozil, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in September 2013 following his then club-record £42.5m switch from La Liga giants Real Madrid, has scored 32 goals in 165 appearances in all competitions overall for Arsene Wenger’s side, winning three FA Cups and an FA Community Shield.

But with the German’s current Arsenal deal set to expire on June 30, 2018, the report suggests Ozil will not commit his future to The Gunners and is preparing to leave the club on a free transfer, despite being offered a £8.1m-a-year contract to stay.
