When the sheer delirium and adrenaline from Cristiano Ronaldo’s last minute winner against Villarreal dies down, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to face some very familiar problems.

An astounding volley from Alex Telles and Ronaldo’s 95th minute winner, helped United recover from Paco Alcacer’s second-half goal, and secure their first win of the Champions League campaign.

However, despite the late drama, it was another frustrating display from the Reds, who have had their playing style and tactics called into question in recent weeks.

Before the victory against Unai Emery’s side, United had lost three of their last four matches against Young Boys, West Ham, and Aston Villa.

While the three points against the side who beat them in last season’s Europa League final will be a huge weight of the team; BT Sport pundits and former United duo Micheal Owen and Owen Hargreaves, were not impressed; specifically earmarking Diogo Dalot’s display for criticism.

Diogo Dalot was given the runaround by Arnaut Danjuma in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory against Villarreal

“Wow Villarreal have been really good down particularly good down this left side, Dalot has had a bit of nightmare,” Owen said to BT Sports after the first-half (cited by Manchester Evening News).

“I’m not sure how he’s going to work this one out Danjuma has been electrifying in parts. It’s just wave after wave.”

Hargreaves concurred with Owen, saying Dalot was given a torrid time by former AFC Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma.

“Danjuma has been fantastic, Mason Greenwood has to help Dalot,” said Hargreaves.

“Danjuma one-on-one, he’s near enough unplayable and got the better of Dalot in these situations.

“There’s a reason why this Villarreal side went to Real Madrid and probably should’ve won, they should be ahead in this game and Danjuma has been the biggest threat. Every time he touches it he looks like he’s going to make something happen.”

United’s win took them to within one point of current group leaders Atalanta, who Solskjaer’s side will travel to face on the 2nd November.
