Jose Mourinho will have come to Old Trafford with one thing in mind, silverware. Whilst it is still early days in the season, all is not going to plan for the Portuguese in his dream job.
Having laboured to a draw at Anfield on Monday, the former Chelsea boss returned to his old stomping ground on Sunday afternoon. Before the clash at Stamford Bridge, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, said that should United take all three points then “Monday’s draw is a good point and it’s a good week, however, lose and one point from six makes it a terrible week.”
Well, it turned into more than a terrible week as Mourinho’s side were embarrassed by Conte’s rampant Chelsea, who ran out 4-0 winners.
Silverware will still be at the forefront of Mourinho’s mind as the season draws on, with the FA Cup and League Cup becoming increasingly important, as well as their Europa League campaign.
In order to compete on all fronts, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss will need a squad he feels he can work with which, despite having landed his four top targets in the summer, it appears he still hasn’t got.
With that in mind, these are the TWO players we at Shoot! feel Mourinho should be aiming for in January…
Blaise Matuidi
Mourinho has been struggling all season to find the perfect role and partner for world-record signing, Paul Pogba.
So, why not just sign the man who successfully partners him for the national side? The PSG midfielder was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer and could still be a great addition to the side.
Jose Gimenez
The Red Devils have been linked with a £40m move for the Atletico Madrid man, who could really help solve some of Mourinho’s defensive woes.
Despite having landed the impressive Eric Bailly over the summer, United have still looked frail at times at the back, and Giminez could go a long way to helping that.
