Forgotten Man United midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, is almost certain to leave Old Trafford in January, and is already getting match-fit ahead of any potential move, according to reports from The Sun.
The former Bayern Munich has endured a rough 18 months in Manchester, having struggled with injuries under Louis Van Gaal, who signed him for £6.5m, before being completely cut off by new manager, Jose Mourinho.
The Germany international, who has scored just once in 18 appearances since his arrival, is reportedly impressing coaching staff at the Red Devils’ Carrington training ground, dedicating himself to extra sessions in the gym in order to get back to match fit levels.
The 32-year-old is rumoured to be interested in a move to either the MLS or back to his home country in January, and a source at United told The Sun:
“The support staff and some of his team-mates are pleased for him. He hasn’t moaned once and is coming in and worked hard in the gym.
“He is obviously fulfilling his contractual obligations but he appears happy and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he has something lined up in January.”
The World Cup winner is still available to Jose Mourinho, should he have a change of heart, however, as per the report, the former Chelsea boss is reluctant to use his in order to avoid any further injury problems that could threaten a January deal.
