Man United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to continue his overhaul at Old Trafford with a £70m investment in his back line during the January window.
According to reports from The Mirror, the former Chelsea boss is keen on adding Bayern Munich and Austria defender David Alaba to his squad, as well as bringing in Dutchman Virgil van Dijk from Premier League rivals, Southampton.
Alaba, who has been rated at around £40m, would provide an answer to Mourinho’s issues at left-back after the Red Devils boss publicly criticised Luke Shaw earlier this season.
The Austria international, however, would be hard to prise from the hands of the German giants whilst there is also reportedly competition from Arsenal, who are tracking the defender.
Former Celtic defender, Virgil van Dijk, has gone under the radar somewhat since joining the Saints from Celtic last summer, but has been impressive nonetheless.
The Netherlands international, who would set Mourinho back around £30m, has played every minute of Premier League football since he moved to the south coast and was imperative in Claude Puel’s side keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool on Saturday.
