Mourinho should give these 3 Man United players a chance against Crystal Palace

Manchester United ended a two-and-a-half month wait for a home league win by beating Tottenham 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first Premier League goal was enough to see off Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the weekend, and it means that United are now just three points behind Spurs, who currently occupy fifth place.

Jose Mourinho has been pleased with how well his side have played in recent weeks, but the results haven’t matched the performances, with Red Devils having won one of their previous eight league games, drawing six.

However, that victory on Sunday could be the perfect platform for United to go on and challenge for the top four, but they’ll need to back up that win over Spurs with another one against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The Eagles drew 3-3 at Hull on Saturday, but did end a run of six straight defeats by beating Southampton 3-0 in their last game at Selhurst Park.

Alan Pardew’s men have scored 27 goals this season, more than any side outside of the top four, and will provide a stern test for Mourinho’s men on Wednesday.

With West Brom coming up at the weekend, Mourinho may shuffle his pack at Selhurst Park, so here are THREE players who deserve a chance on Wednesday…

Luke Shaw

Antonio Valencia is suspended for their trip to Crystal Palace, which will likely mean that Matteo Darmian will fill in at right-back, possibly leaving the left-back spot open to Luke Shaw.

The England international has been criticised by Mourinho at times this season, and last started a Premier League game back in October.

Since then, the 21-year-old started in two of United’s Europa League games, as well as the 4-1 win over West Ham where he had to be replaced at half time due to injury.

This injury has kept him out in recent weeks, but he could make a return on Wednesday at Palace as he looks to nail down the left-back role.

Marcus Rashford

It has been over two-and-a-half months since Marcus Rashford last scored for United, and he has subsequently lost his place in the starting eleven.

However, the injury to Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial’s below par performance against Tottenham at the weekend could open the door for the England international to get a start on Wednesday.

Rashford is clearly a very talented attacker who, when confident, looks to take defenders on and make clever runs in behind.

You sense that he needs that elusive goal to get that confidence back, and it could happen on Wednesday.

Wayne Rooney

Having played midweek games in each of the last three weeks, Mourinho will once again need to keep things fresh in the middle of the park.

Thus, Wayne Rooney may be drafted back into the starting line-up at Selhurst Park.

The England captain hasn’t started in the Premier League since their 3-1 win at Swansea on November 6, in which he provided two assists to help Mourinho’s men to a comfortable victory.

A goal and an assist against Feyenoord also demonstrated that the 31-year-old still has a lot to offer this United team, and with Mkhitaryan out and Michael Carrick unlikely to play three times in a week, Paul Pogba may move further back, allowing Rooney to start in the number ten role.
