Mourinho should give these 3 Man United players a chance against Everton

Manchester United host Ronald Koeman’s Everton on Tuesday (8pm kick-off) looking to get back to winning ways after a frustrating result on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s men were held to a 0-0 draw by West Brom at Old Trafford to miss the chance to close the gap on the Premier League’s top four, instead remaining five points behind neighbours Manchester City with ten games of the season remaining.

Their stalemate on Saturday was their 11th league draw of the campaign, more than any other side, and their tally of eight at Old Trafford means that they have drawn more than they have won at the Theatre of Dreams (they have won just six times in the league at home).

However, they will look to get back to winning ways against the Toffees on Tuesday night, who themselves suffered a disappointing result at the weekend, losing 3-1 in the Merseyside derby to Liverpool.

Koeman’s men were not at the races throughout the contest at Anfield, although prior to then they had lost just one of 12 league games, so will hope that Saturday’s result and performance was nothing more than a mere blip.

Nonetheless, United will go in as favourites against Koeman’s side on Tuesday, although Mourinho is once again facing a selection headache given the injuries in his squad.

Thus, here are THREE Man United players who deserve a chance against Everton on Tuesday…

Daley Blind

The versatile Daley Blind may give Mourinho an option at either centre-back, left-back or centre midfield should the Portuguese want to mix it up against Everton.

The United boss opted for Ashley Young at left-back against the Baggies on Saturday, but with Everton more likely to carry a greater attacking threat than Tony Pulis’ men, Mourinho may revert to a more defensive-minded player at full-back.

With the likes of Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic due back from suspension on Tuesday, the United squad isn’t as stretched as it has been, but Blind still may get the nod against the Toffees.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney came on as a 74th minute substitute against West Brom on Saturday, but couldn’t make that telling contribution which would have seen United pick up a vital three points.

However, the prospect of playing against his former side and boyhood club may bring the best out of the England captain, who has scored just two goals and laid on five assists in 19 Premier League appearances this term.

In fact, his tally of five assists is the most by any United player this season, so Mourinho may need his experienced skipper to lead his side to victory against the Toffees on Tuesday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Of all the players United are due to welcome back into the fold against Everton, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the one they need the most.

The Swedish striker has scored 15 goals in just 25 Premier League starts this term, and with nine goals in other competitions, he is their talisman and the one they rely on to get the goals, so no wonder they didn’t find a way past West Brom on Saturday.

However, he has served his three-match ban for elbowing Tyrone Mings at the start of March, and must surely go straight back into the starting line-up against the Toffees on Tuesday.
