Mourinho should give these 3 Man United players a chance against Hull

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Wednesday when they host struggling Hull City at Old Trafford (8pm kick-off).

Jose Mourinho’s men got the better of the Tigers in the League Cup semi-final, although did lose 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium last Thursday, before sweeping aside Championship outfit Wigan 4-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Their last league outing saw them draw 1-1 at Stoke, with Wayne Rooney netting his 250th goal for the club, and in turn overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record as United’s all-time leading goal-scorer.

Mourinho’s men could really do with all three points on Wednesday having drawn their last two league games, yet they know they’ll be in for a tough evening against Marco Silva’s Hull, who will be buoyed after beating the Red Devils only last week.

However, they did lose 4-1 at Championship side Fulham on Sunday in the FA Cup to set them back a little, but the ultimate aim this season is Premier League survival and, given that they are two points adrift of safety at present, they’ll hope to get something from a tricky trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Having played a lot of football in recent weeks, Mourinho may change things up against the Tigers, so here are THREE Man United players who deserve a chance on Wednesday…

Daley Blind

Luke Shaw was given a chance at left-back in United’s 4-0 win over Wigan in the FA Cup on Sunday, yet isn’t expected to retain his place against Hull on Wednesday.

Instead, Mourinho could turn to the experienced Daley Blind to fill in at left-back should he decide against playing Matteo Darmian, who has been first choice in the Premier League for a while now.

Dutch international Blind got the nod in their last league outing, a 1-1 draw away at Stoke ten days ago, but didn’t appear in either of their cup games against Hull and Wigan in the past few days.

Nonetheless, the 26-year-old is a reliable option for Mourinho to have at his disposal and, given that he has started 13 times in the league this term, he’s clearly an important option, and one who could return to the starting eleven on Wednesday.

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard last started a Premier League game back on January 2 in their 2-0 win over West Ham, yet could make a return to the starting eleven against Hull on Wednesday.

The England international started against the Tigers in their League Cup clash last week at the KCOM Stadium, but missed out on selection against Championship side Wigan on Sunday, perhaps suggesting that he’s in line for a start on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old will need to improve his form though if he’s to return to the line-up, given that he has only scored one and assisted another in his last 14 appearances for United, which has seen him somewhat fall away from the first team picture.

However, Lingard has clearly got quality on the ball, and United may need his pace and width to stretch a likely stubborn Hull defence on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford

Like Lingard, United may benefit from Marcus Rashford’s pace either upfront or down the flanks on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old went through a barren spell of no goals in 17 appearances for United from September to the New Year, yet netted a brace in their 4-0 win over Reading in the third round of the FA Cup on January 7 to get back into form.

However, since then he hasn’t been able to add to his goal tally, yet has only played 34 minutes of Premier League action in the last few weeks, coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Stoke last time out.

Rashford’s last league start was back in November against West Ham, yet his contributions off the bench since then have been good, so Mourinho may give him the nod against Hull on Wednesday.
