Mourinho should give these 3 Man United players a chance against Northampton

Jose Mourinho has had a rough ride as Man United manager recently, having lost three games in just eight days, beginning with a Manchester derby loss at Old Trafford, followed by humbling defeats to Feyenoord and Watford in the Europa League and Premier League respectively.

It is clear from their performance against Watford that the United team needs shaking up, and what better way to do that than introduce some fresh faces when they face Northampton in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

The former Chelsea boss has always taken the EFL Cup seriously as, for him, winning is a habit and this competition offers an early chance for silverware in the season.

The Red Devils have a busy few weeks ahead, fighting on all fronts at home and abroad and therefore Mourinho will need to utilise his whole squad.

With that in mind, here are THREE players that everyone here at Shoot! thinks should get the nod at The Sixfields Stadium…

Memphis Depay

The Dutch winger has been cast aside somewhat since Jose Mourinho took the reigns a Old Trafford, and he is in desperate need of some game time in order to revive his United career.

Having been left out of the squad for three of the Red Devils’ five Premier League games so far he will be ready and waiting  to get going against Northampton.

Jesse Lingard

The Man United academy graduate has recovered from an early season ankle injury and, after a disappointing  45 minutes in the defeat to Man City he needs another chance to impress his boss.

The 23-year-old will be relishing the chance of a start against lesser opposition in Northampton and, provided there isn’t a slip up, could be in for a big confidence boost.

The Spanish midfielder has only got two full 90 minute games under his belt so far this season, against Bournemouth and Feyenoord.

Having been part of the side that lost in the Europa League in Rotterdam, the 27-year-old will, like Lingard, be desperate for another chance to get back into the first team thoughts of Jose Mourinho.
