Mourinho should give these 3 Man United players a chance v Zorya

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United will look to end a three-year wait for a European away win when they travel to Zorya this evening.

The Red Devils are second in Group A having won three of their first five group games, but two away defeats at first Feyenoord and then Fenerbahce means that Mourinho’s men still need a point from their last game to secure qualification.

However, with the aforementioned two meeting each other in Rotterdam tonight, United know that a victory may be enough to seal top spot in the group, which would be a decent return in what has been a testing European campaign for Mourinho’s side.

They have won all three games at Old Trafford, but you have to go back to September 2013 for their last away win in Europe, when David Moyes’ men beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 in the Champions League.

United would love to get that monkey off their back against the Ukrainian side, who sit bottom of Group A having won none of their five matches thus far.

With United struggling in the Premier League at present, Mourinho may ring the changes in Zorya, so here are THREE players who should get a chance this evening…

Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly was named amongst the substitutes in the 1-1 draw at Everton on Sunday and, if he’s fit enough to start, Mourinho should put him straight into the starting eleven.

The Ivorian international was excellent for the Red Devils up until his injury in the defeat to Chelsea in October and, although the makeshift United defence has decent since then, they are still prone to the odd error.

Phil Jones has arguably earned a chance to start next to Bailly over the next few weeks, and Mourinho will hope to get a settled central defensive partnership ready in time for the busy Christmas period.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

For all of United’s defensive issues this season, both in terms of injuries and just general performance, it’s slightly surprising that Timothy Fosu-Mensah hasn’t featured much under Mourinho.

The 18-year-old is highly-rated at Old Trafford, but has made just four appearances in all competitions this season, the last two of which have been substitute cameos against Fenerbahce and Swansea.

The Dutch defender is in the squad for the trip to Zorya, and should get an opportunity to prove his worth to the United boss.

Marcus Rashford

Anthony Martial’s brace against West Ham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to form are in stark contrast to the goal-scoring form of Marcus Rashford.

The England international hasn’t scored for the Red Devils since their 4-1 win over Leicester back on September 24, and has started just one of their last four games in all competitions as a result.

The 19-year-old is clearly talented and has risen to the big occasion before, and you sense that he just needs a goal to kick-start his season.

That may come tonight in Ukraine.
