Mourinho should give these 3 Man United stars a chance against Crystal Palace

Manchester United host Crystal Palace on the final weekend of what has been a frustrating Premier League season for the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho’s men will finish sixth regardless of their result on Sunday as well as other results, and could end up 27 points behind champions Chelsea should the Blues beat Sunderland, and United lose at home to Sam Allardyce’s Eagles.

However, Mourinho has led the club to the League Cup title and the Europa League final in his first season at Old Trafford, and with the showpiece against Ajax to come on Wednesday, their attentions will no doubt be focused on achieving a second piece of silverware.

Nonetheless, Allardyce’s Palace will go to Old Trafford off the back of a 4-0 win over Hull last weekend, a result which confirmed the Eagles’ top-flight status and relegated the Tigers, and they’ll know that victory on Sunday could see them finish the season in 11th.

Yet Mourinho’s United will go in as favourites ahead of Sunday’s encounter, however with their clash on Wednesday to follow, the Portuguese may make some changes to his side.

Thus, here are THREE Man United stars who deserve a chance against Crystal Palace…

Daley Blind

Mourinho will be firmly focusing on Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, but he’ll still likely give those on the fringes of the first team the chance to stake a claim for a final spot.

And that means that the versatile Dutchman Daley Blind could get an opportunity on Sunday against Palace.

The 27-year-old played the full 90 minutes in their defeat to Tottenham last weekend but was left out completely against Southampton on Wednesday, perhaps suggesting that he is in Mourinho’s plans for next week, or that he’ll play on Sunday, or both.

And, having not featured at St Mary’s, you’d expect Blind to return to the team on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard

Mourinho will likely have a team in mind for the clash against Ajax next week, and given his form this term, Jesse Lingard is unlikely to be in it.

The England international has scored just five times in all competitions for the Red Devils, his latest coming against Middlesbrough back in March, yet he may be given a chance on Sunday to stake a claim for a spot in the Europa League final.

Lingard has a history of producing the goods in the big games, so Mourinho should give him a run-out on Sunday to see if he can play his way into form, and thus into the team, for Wednesday.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney led the line for United against Southampton on Wednesday night, yet he’s unlikely to be in the starting eleven in the Europa League final next week.

And, with his future far from certain, Sunday could turn out to be his last game at Old Trafford, and thus he deserves a start in case he does indeed leave the club this summer.

The 31-year-old became the Red Devils’ all time top goal-scorer this season, eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally of 249 with a last-gasp strike at Stoke in January, and should this be his last game at Old Trafford, he deserves the chance to receive a great send-off after 13 years in the North West.
