Mourinho should give these 3 Manchester United players a chance vs Everton

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United picked up a much-needed victory in midweek at the expense of Slaven Bilic’s West Ham.

The two sides drew 1-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford last weekend, but United made no mistakes on Wednesday night, dispatching their opponents 4-1 to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup.

It was an impressive all round display from Mourinho’s men, with the Portuguese boss banned from the touchline for angrily kicking a water bottle in frustration in the league meeting last Sunday.

However, the result and indeed the performance will give United fans much optimism going into their trip to Everton on Sunday, another side who have struggled in the league in recent weeks.

The Toffees have won just one of their eight league games, and looked toothless and abject in their 1-0 defeat at manager Ronald Koeman’s former club Southampton on Sunday.

With both sides in serious need of three points, it is sure to be a tense contest at Goodison Park on Sunday, and Mourinho may make a few changes based on his side’s performance in midweek.

Thus, here are THREE United players who deserve a chance on Sunday…

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger finally got on the pitch for Manchester United on Wednesday night, replacing Anthony Martial with four minutes to go against West Ham.

Although the former German international cannot make much of an impact in four minutes, the 32-year-old has given Mourinho another option in the centre of midfield.

Michael Carrick played on Wednesday night, so it remains to be seen whether he starts on Sunday, and with Wayne Rooney suspended, Paul Pogba may play slightly further forward, which could open the door for Schweinsteiger to make his first Premier League appearance since March.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is beginning to look like the player we all saw perform brilliantly in the Bundesliga over the last few years.

The Armenian captain has been on the periphery at Old Trafford for one reason or another, but has started two of United’s last three games, and been the star performer in both.

The 27-year-old was instrumental in their 4-0 win over Feyenoord last week, and backed that up with an equally impressive display against West Ham on Wednesday night.

With Rooney suspended, a place could come available for Mkhitaryan, and Mourinho should seriously consider playing him against Everton.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial looked back to his best in United’s 4-1 win over West Ham, and could be pushing for a start on Sunday.

The French international has struggled to recreate last season’s form this time around, but netted a fine brace to back up an excellent attacking performance.

United have lacked a bit of creative spark at times this season, but if Martial begins to regain some confidence and play like he did last time around, then he’ll be a handful for Premier League defenders.
