Manchester United are reportedly edging closer to selling Italy international defender Matteo Darmian.

The Premier League side, who have signed defender Diogo Dalot (FC Porto), midfielder Fred (Shakhtar Donetsk) and goalkeeper Lee Grant (Stoke City) so far this summer, have been linked with offloading the right-back before the close of the transfer window on August 9.

The 28-year-old, who has 36 international caps for the Azzurri, provided two assists in 17 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils last season.

Darmian, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July 2015 following his reported £12.7m move from Torino, has scored one goal in 85 games overall for the club.

However, the Italian full-back is expected to leave The Theatre of Dreams ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted the Serie A side are considering making an offer for the United defender.

He told Radio Kiss Kiss, “There are five or six names on the list.

“We are monitoring [Santiago] Arias like Darmian, who can play on both flanks.

“Everybody would like to sign Darmian because of his versatility.”

Darmian has one year remaining on his current United contract, and is valued at just £9m.
