England international Daniel Sturridge is being linked with a surprise summer move to Napoli, according to reports in Italy (via the Liverpool Echo).

The 26-year-old, who has 16 international caps for the Three Lions and is a contender to be included in national team coach Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016, is interesting the Serie A outfit as a possible replacement for star striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Sturridge, who arrived at Anfield from Chelsea back in January 2013 in a deal worth around £12m, has scored six goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Reds so far this season.

The report suggests that Napoli are keen on Sturridge to replace Argentina forward Higuain, who is being pursued by defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

With Jurgen Klopp’s men destined to finish outside of the Premier League’s top four, a switch to the Serie A side would provide the Englishman with a greater likelihood of starring in the UEFA Champions League next term as they currently sit second in the Italian top-flight behind Juventus.
