Newcastle United could be set to offload summer flop Florian Thauvin as early as this month, according to L’Equipe.

The Premier League side, who snatched an entertaining 3-3 draw against Manchester United on Tuesday night, are thought to be in talks with Marseille over a loan move for the France winger.

The 22-year-old, who cost the Magpies a costly £13m from the Ligue 1 outfit back in August, has scored just once in 15 appearances in all competitions for Steve McClaren’s side so far this season.

Thauvin, who is a former France Under-21 international, could be set to return to his homeland just five months after arriving at St James’ Park after an underwhelming start to his career at Newcastle.

In return; boss McClaren is hopeful of signing England international and Tottenham forward Andros Townsend as a possible replacement during the January transfer window.
