Newcastle United will be playing Premier League football next season after clinching an immediate return to the top-flight.
Rafa Benitez’s men won 29 of their 46 Championship matches to win the title ahead of Chris Hughton’s Brighton, with the Magpies benefiting from a late Aston Villa goal against the Seagulls on the final day to pip the South Coast outfit to top spot.
And the St James’ Park faithful will be eagerly anticipating their return to the top tier under manager Benitez, who seems to have transformed a club after relegation to one that is only looking one way… up.
And one man they’ve been linked with in their bid to compete in the Premier League next season is Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy, who has spent this term on loan at David Wagner’s Huddersfield.
The 26-year-old has bagged four goals and laid on seven assists to help the Terriers reach the play-offs, and he’ll be in action this evening as the Yorkshire outfit look to reach the Wembley showpiece by beating Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
And reports linking Newcastle with the Australia international has stimulated quite a response from Magpies supporters on Twitter, with many welcoming any possible deal for the highly-rated midfielder…
In the last month #NUFC have been linked with Abraham and Mooy. If either happen I might just cry with happiness

Personally would prefer Mooy. Think he’s got more potential and could step up in the PL. Too much doubt with Cairney. #NUFC https://t.co/gaUZT3MJxH

If mooy is available for £10m then that is a proper steal. #nufc

@NUFCTheMag I think he would be a good signing. Two baldys in the middle!

Although there are a few Newcastle fans yet to be convinced that Mooy is what the club need in the Premier League next season…
@lee_ryder He’s good, but there’s absolutely no way I’d pay 10 million for him!
