Newcastle join Pereira race

Rafa Benitez wants assurances over transfers before committing his future to Newcastle.

Newcastle have joined the queue of clubs watching Dion Pereira’s situation at Watford.

According to a report in The Standard Rafa Benitez has been alerted to the fact that the 18-year-old could leave for just a token development fee.

Pereira has been with Watford since the age of nine but hasn’t yet signed on a professional contract.

After making two substitute appearances this month it’s clear that he has a role at Watford but it has been suggested that the regular changing of coaches hasn’t been to his liking.

Benitez has been promised big money to make Newcastle a force again in the Premier League but is keen to bring in value alongside bigger names.

West Ham and Brighton are also believed to be keen on signing the 18-year-old who can expect a massive signing on fee whichever club he decides to move to.

Watford have been trying for over a year to get Pereira onto a new contract but have had little response with the player claiming to be keeping his options open.
