Newcastle make improved offer for forgotten Manchester United man after failing with first bid

Newcastle United’s uncharacteristic spending this month doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon, with the Magpies now chasing an England international.

Eddie howe’s side failed with an attempt to sign Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard on loan earlier this week, but they have now made an improved offer, as per The Telegraph.

Fresh from a £300 million takeover, Newcastle have already spent £12 million on Kieran Trippier and £25 million on ex-Burnley forward Chris Wood, but they have now made a lucrative offer for Lingard.

The report suggests that the improved second bid includes a £6 million loan fee, and would also see Newcastle cover the full cost of the player’s wages, believed to be around £80,000-per-week.

Lingard has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford in recent years, and is yet to start a single Premier League game so far this term.

Lingard has started just two games across all competitions this season

The 29-year-old was sent on loan to West Ham United this time last year, and made an instant impact, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in his first nine league games for the Hammers.

The Englishman was heavily linked with a permanent move to East London, but it never materialised and he returned to his parent club at the end of the season intent on regaining a starting spot.

Newcastle are reportedly now keen on the midfielder as Eddie Howe looks to take some of the creative responsibility away from the shoulders of Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Magpies currently sit in 19th place in the Premier League, although bottom side Burnley have three games in hand on them.
