Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to make West Brom striker Saido Berahino their new club-record signing this January transfer window.
The Premier League side, who lost 1-0 at Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday, are understood to be plotting an astonishing £18m bid for the former England Under-21 international this month.
The 22-year-old, who came through the Baggies’ youth system, has scored three goals in 15 Premier League appearances for Tony Pulis’ side so far this season.
Berahino, who netted in West Brom’s 2-2 draw against Bristol City at the weekend, is desperate to quit the Hawthorns this month and could surpass Newcastle’s record buy of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum (£16.5m) from July.
Premier League rivals Stoke City and Tottenham have also been linked with January moves for Berahino.
