Newcastle have been given the green light to bid for Paul Ince after Derby put a £10m price tag on the midfielder.

According to a report in The Mirror the midfielder will be sold off to help fund Gary Rowett’s transfer plans for next season.

Ince was one of Derby’s most consistent performers last season and seems to have rediscovered his form after a couple of difficult seasons.

Newcastle had a bid for the 25-year-old rejected in January but with promotion secured are expected to go in again to sign up Ince.

Rafa Benitez has reigned in his transfer targets to concentrate on players ready to make an instant impact with a knowledge of the Premier League.

The Newcastle boss is looking to strengthen every area of the pitch with midfield a priority as he aims for a top half finish steering Newcastle well clear of their recent battles against relegation.
