Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing France international striker Bafetimbi Gomis during the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League side, who moved two points clear of the bottom three after defeating West Ham United 2-1 on Saturday, have added the Swansea City star to their list of potential transfer targets this month.

The 30-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has scored five league goals in 20 appearances for the struggling Swans this season.

Gomis, who has also been linked with January moves to Lekhwiya in Qatar and Al Ahli in Dubai, has a £7m release clause in his current contract at the Liberty Stadium.

The Magpies have already signed England international Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea this month for £12m.
