Newcastle United are reportedly trying to sign defenders Joel Matip from Schalke and Robin Knoche from Wolfsburg.
This will come to no surprise to fans with the Magpies currently without a win in the Premier League this season and already knocked out of the Capital One Cup.
Apart from a 0-0 draw at a below-par Manchester United, Steve McClaren’s backline has looked dodgy and they’ve conceded nine times in the other five league matches.
Matip, 24, is a physical centre-back, who can also play in the holding midfield role, while Knoche, 23, is also a centre-back and represented Germany 10 times at Under-21 level.
The latter is known by McClaren, with Knoche impressing at youth team level when the now Newcastle boss was manager at Wolfsburg.
