Newcastle United: The Magpies’ BRIT Awards 2016 winner

Name: Jonjo Shelvey
Position: Midfielder

He has been at St James’ Park for only a matter of weeks, but already January signing Jonjo Shelvey has his hands on an award – well, an imaginary 2016 BRIT Award!

The 23-year-old, who has six international caps for England and is in contention to be part of Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions squad to compete at the 2016 UEFA European Championships this summer in France, beat the likes of fellow new arrival Andros Townsend and midfielder Jack Colback to be named the Magpies’ best British talent.

Shelvey, who joined Newcastle United from fellow Premier League rivals Swansea City in a deal worth a reported £12m last month, has provided two assists in the five league outings he has completed under boss Steve McClaren so far this season.

The central midfielder will be desperate to prove his British talent until the end of the campaign in order to wriggle his way back into the international fold ahead of Euro 2016, especially as he featured in three of England’s qualification group stage fixtures.
