Norwich City have reportedly tabled an audacious bid to sign Roma striker Matteo Destro.

The newly promoted Premier League club, who lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace on the opening day of the new campaign, are thought to have offered £4.5m for the Italy international.

The 24-year-old, who has eight international caps, scored eight goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.

Destro was heavily tipped to complete a move to Italian rivals Bologna earlier this month, but the Canaries have now stepped in with a firm offer in order to try and tempt the Italian to Carrow Road this summer.

With fellow forward Gary Hooper’s future at the club in doubt, Norwich boss Alex Neil is keen on bringing in another striker to the Premier League club before the close of the transfer window, with Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle also another potential target.
