After picking up just two points from their opening four matches, and with Papiss Cisse continuing to being linked with a move away and Aleksandar Mitrovic showing a lack of discipline, Toon boss Steve McClaren will be looking to sign a striker before the transfer window closes.
The United board have backed their manager well during the summer, and they will need to do so again if they are to bring the £15m-rated England international to St James’ Park.
The QPR attacker, who scored 18 Premier League goals last season, could be one of the most in-demand players on deadline day.
