Southampton look to have a pretty well-rounded squad with a week to go before Transfer Deadline Day. However, after leaking five goals in their opening two Premier League fixtures, it would appear that they need one more centre-back.
That is particularly apparent since Romanian international Florin Gardos has been ruled out for up to six months with a knee injury and Toby Alderwiereld chose to join Tottenham, rather than make his loan permanent at St. Mary’s.
Ronald Koeman could really do with some extra cover at the back and has been heavily linked with fellow Dutchman van Dijk who is keen to leave Celtic after they failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage for a second season in a row.
