That is particularly apparent since Romania international Florin Gardos has been ruled out for up to six months with a knee injury, and Toby Alderwiereld chose to join Tottenham rather than make his loan at St. Mary’s permanent.
Saints’ prime target is understood to be Koeman’s fellow Dutchman Van Dijk, who is keen to leave Celtic after they failed to qualify for the Champions League group stages for a second season in a row.
