On this day, 42 years ago, a legend was born. More specifically, a Manchester United legend was born.

Shoot! would like to wish a certain Paul Scholes many happy returns on his birthday!

The former England and Manchester United midfielder enjoyed an illustrious career for club and country, scoring spectacular goals and winning dozens of silverware during his Red Devil playing days.

The redhead midfielder was part of The Class of ’92, alongside fellow uprising stars Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Phil Neville.

Nowadays; the 42-year-old is currently co-owner of Salford City, who compete in the National League North, where The Ammies currently lie eighth after their opening 18 league games.

Paul Scholes was born at Salford’s Hope Hospital on November 16, 1974, son to Stewart and Marina Scholes.

July 8, 1991

Manchester United signed the youngster on July 8, 1991, before Scholes put pen to paper on his first professional deal on July 23, 1993.

September 21, 1994

Scholes made his Red Devils debut on September 21, 1994, against Port Vale in the League Cup.

He scored both goals in a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

United even held a testimonial match to honour the legendary midfielder in August 2011 against New York Cosmos at Old Trafford, before the midfielder reversed his decision in January 2012.

May 19, 2013

Take two – Scholes announced his retirement from football for the second time at the end of the 2012/13 campaign, but this time he kept his promise.

Just eight days later; on May 19, 2013, the midfielder made his 499th and final league appearance for the Red Devils against West Brom as a substitute in an enthralling 5-5 draw at The Hawthorns.
