Pochettino should give these 3 Tottenham stars a chance against Watford

Tottenham have the chance to pile the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea by beating Watford in the early kick-off on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off).

Mauricio Pochettino’s men left it very late to overcome Swansea 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night to record a fifth straight league win, and keep them within seven points of Antonio Conte’s Blues after they got the better of Manchester City on the same night.

However, Spurs have the chance to reduce that gap to four points by beating Walter Mazzarri’s Hornets at White Hart Lane, and what with Chelsea facing a potentially tricky trip to Bournemouth later in the day, the pressure could certainly be on Conte’s men should Tottenham pick up the win.

Yet, it won’t be easy for Pochettino’s side against a Watford team that have won their last two league games, and currently sit tenth in the division.

Mazzarri’s men have won ten of their 30 Premier League matches this season to sit nine points clear of the bottom three, and know that victory on Saturday would take them to that coveted 40-point mark.

Nonetheless, Spurs will be big favourites going into Saturday’s encounter, but given how lethargic Pochettino’s men were for large parts against Swansea, the Tottenham boss could make some changes on Saturday.

Thus, here are THREE Spurs players who deserve a chance against Watford…

Kieran Trippier

If Pochettino is looking to keep things fresh in his backline, then Kieran Trippier may return to the side against Watford on Saturday.

The Englishman started their 2-0 win over former club Burnley last weekend for his second Premier League start of the campaign, the first being against Watford all the way back on New Year’s Day.

And with two excellent assists in that match, as well as a solid display against the Clarets last time out, Trippier is clearly an adequate deputy at the back, and may well make a return to the starting eleven given Spurs’ excursions against Swansea on Wednesday.

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou

Tottenham spent £11 million on winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou last summer, but he has still yet to make a Premier League start for the North London outfit.

The 22-year-old has six times been a substitute in the league this term, the latest of which coming in their 3-1 win over Swansea on Wednesday night.

He showed some promise in that 11-minute cameo as Spurs searched for a route back into the game, and the French youngster may have given Pochettino something to think about ahead of Saturday’s clash with Watford.

Whether he’ll get a start remains to be seen, but he may well get another chance off the bench to prove his worth to the Tottenham boss on Saturday.

Vincent Janssen

Striker Vincent Janssen changed the game for Spurs in their win over Swansea in midweek, with his introduction helping the visitors come from 1-0 down to win 3-1 in South Wales.

And that may be enough to see the Dutchman earn a start against Watford.

The 22-year-old has endured a testing start to life in England following his move last summer, and with just one Premier League goal in 728 minutes of action, he hasn’t done enough to warrant a regular start.

However, it was his impetus and inspiration which helped Spurs come from behind to beat Swansea in midweek, and the confidence he gained from that could see him come good for Tottenham between now and May – it may even be enough to earn a start on Saturday.
