Premier League 5-a-side Team of the Season so far

The Premier League returns for matchweek 5 in just three days following the latest international break.

Despite fans not having returned to stadiums, it’s been a thrilling start to the 2020/21 season which has thrown up many surprises so far.

Just two clubs in Everton and Aston Villa remain undefeated with four and three wins from as many matches respectively.

Within the 20 clubs there have been many players who have made eye-catching starts to the campaign.

So to pass the time before the next kick-off on Saturday, we’ve decided to pick and share our Premier League 5-a-side Team of the Season so far….

Karl Darlow (Newcastle United)

Not a name you may have even expected to have played before the start of the season but an injury to Martin Dubravka means that Karl Darlow has been handed his chance. So far the ex-Nottingham Forest stopper has grabbed that chance with both gloves. In the four appearances he’s made, the 30-year-old has made a league-high 20 saves. Darlow has only one clean sheet to his name but has helped the Magpies reach seven points from four matches.

Declan Rice (West Ham United)

We’ve cheated in the sense that we’ve not opted for a natural defender, but in 5-a-side it will be great to have a player who can play in tight areas and out from the back. This is why we’ve opted for Hammers midfielder Declan Rice. After a poor opening match against Newcastle, the England midfielder has raised his game since, helping the Hammers record impressive back-to-back wins over Wolves and Leicester. Rice is one of the top-six interceptors in the league and his ability to read the game means he could certainly do a job on his own in defence.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)

We’re not going to lie, our midfield has a real creative look to it so Rice will have to be on his guard. We start with Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. The 25-year-old starred last term as he helped his boyhood club survive and has picked up where he left off at the start of this. Already with three goals and three assists to his name in as many matches, the England international’s displays are a big reason why the Villans have a 100% record.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur)

After a tame start against Everton, many thought Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side might struggle this term. Since then however, they’ve netted 12 times in 3 matches. Six of those were converted by Son Heung-min, who followed up a four-goal haul at Southampton with a brace in the 6-1 win at Manchester United. We admit, James Rodriguez of Everton has been more consistent over the four matches but with the inclusion of the next man we wanted to pick all our players from different clubs.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)

Calvert-Lewin has become Everton’s main man in attack.

We couldn’t pick a 5-a-side team without picking the league’s most in-form striker at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in sensational form for Everton having scored six goals in his first four matches. This has helped the Toffees to four wins which sees them as the early frontrunners. With Son and Grealish picking passes we’re sure that the 23-year-old would fill his boots in this team.
