Premier League out-of-favour XI

Players fall out of favour at their clubs every weekend across the country, for an array of reasons.

Whether it be that a new manager simply doesn’t take a shine to the signings of his predecessor, or an existing manager has a change of heart concerning selection or tactics, some players have to be the victim.

It is, however, often the case that some players fall down the pecking order simply because they are not good enough, either they can’t suit their manager, didn’t deliver what they were expected to when signed or if their club has risen to a level above their own.

Whilst this is often the case, there are always some very decent players hovering around who – for one reason or another – are not getting regular game time where they currently are.

With managers now looking at whether or not they need to dip into the transfer market this month we here at Shoot! have helpfully put together our XI of out of favour Premier League players, take a look…

The Arsenal shot-stopper is, without doubt, a superb goalkeeper. He is just unlucky in that he is stuck behind one of the world’s best in Petr Cech.

Whilst Arsene Wenger would be in no mind to lose his man in January, a good enough bid would certain test the resolve of those at The Emirates

The Dutch defender has not been cast aside in the fashion that some have at Manchester United, more on that later, however, he is still not playing as much as he’d like.

The former Ajax man has been in and out of the side all season and has a lot more to offer a manager than Jose Mourinho is giving him the chance to show.

Another at Man United who hasn’t felt the worst from Jose Mourinho but certainly isn’t a favourite of the former Chelsea manager.

The England international was publicly criticised by his manager earlier in the season and there have been suggestions that the former Fulham man could leave this month should Mourinho land his desired targets.

CB: Rob Holding

This may seem a little harsh, but it is not comment on the talent that Rob Holding has to offer, he has simply fallen down the pecking order in north London due to the return of Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi earlier in the season.

The former Bolton man showed that he can hack it at this level earlier in the season and would be perfect for a loan swoop in January.

RB: Carl Jenkinson

I promise there are other clubs involved, just wait.

The former West Ham loanee was dropped from the Arsenal side earlier this term with manager Arsene Wenger claiming that he could not handle the pressure.

Whilst he is having a rough time of it upon his return to The Emirates, Jenkinson has shown at times that he can be a quality right-back in the Premier League.

I told you there would be other clubs.

The Tottenham man is not out-of-favour in the traditional sense in that he is still playing weekly for Mauricio Pochettino.

However, after the arrival of Victor Wanyama from Southampton over the summer the England international has been reduced to filling in at centre-back as the season has gone on.

Back to Mourinho and Manchester United, I’m afraid.

The former Germany international would me a magnificent addition to almost any side in the Premier League.

Whether or not the Portuguese manager thinks the former Bayern Munich man is good enough or not he still has a lot to offer a squad off the pitch and, in that regard, his treatment of the World Cup winner has been appalling.

CM: Morgan Schneiderlin

Staying in red half of Manchester. Another who has fallen foul of Mourinho’s overhaul is former Southampton man Morgan Schneiderlin.

The France international has proved that he has what it takes to be a leading midfielder at this level and would be a fantastic January signing for most sides in the division.

LW: Michy Batshuayi

The Belgium international arrived at Chelsea over the summer, after Antonio Conte swooped in late to beat London rivals Tottenham and West Ham to the deal.

However, since his arrival it is fair to say the forward hasn’t really been given a fair crack of the whip and with Conte’s side so settled and Diego Costa in such form, it is unlikely he will any time soon.

ST: Daniel Sturridge

The England international is a peculiar case. His talent is there for all to see when fit, however, having been sold on by both Manchester City and Chelsea before being knocked off his perch by Jurgen Klopp, questions have been raised over his attitude.

However, with the chances that some of the players in this XI could create, Sturridge would have no problem finding the net on a regular basis.

RW: Memphis Depay

Rounding off the XI is, surprise surprise, another to have ended up on the wrong list at Old Trafford.

Signed by Louis Van Gaal a lot was expected of Depay when he arrived in Manchester, however, he is yet to realise that potential and it seems that Jose Mourinho is not exactly willing to give him the chance to.
