Premier League Team of the Week: Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs players impress in Matchweek 8

Premier League Matchweek 8 was once again filled with great goals and matches.

But, following the latest round of fixtures, who were the top individual performers across the 10 top-flight games?

Here’s Shoot’s Premier League Team of the Week…

GK: Nick Pope (Burnley)

Burnley may not be hitting the standards set in previous seasons as yet but goalkeeper Nick Pope is continuing to impress between the sticks. The England international again stood strong in the 0-0 draw at Brighton, denying Danny Welbeck twice in the first half to secure a point.

DF: Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)

Is really shining in the right-back position under Ralph Hasenhuttl. Shut down Miguel Almiron to win possession for his side in the lead up to the opening goal and dealt with the threat of Allan Saint-Maximin all evening.

DF: Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)

A real commanding performance from the England international. Was Spurs’ best player in a poor first half as he made two big interceptions. Those moments proved decisive as Tottenham snatched a late win thanks to Harry Kane’s header.

DF: Wesley Fofana (Leicester City)

Once again showed what a good young player the Foxes have on their hands. Made two fantastic interventions to deny Wolves in his side’s 1-0 win which took them to the top of the table. Was also comfortable on the ball and always tried to move the ball forward if possible.

DF: Aaron Cresswell (West Ham)

Playing as a left-sided centre-back for the Hammers rather than his more natural left-back position but it seems to be suiting Aaron Cresswell. Helped his side register a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Fulham while, going forward, he hit the crossbar with a free-kick and caused problems with his set pieces.

MF: Stuart Armstrong (Southampton)

Seemed to be everywhere in Saints’ win over Newcastle United. Started in a wide area but often looked to come inside which caused problems for the Newcastle defence. Topped off his performance with his first goal of the season in the second half.

MF: Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

Manchester United’s Portuguese star was very much their main man in the 3-1 win at Everton. Equalised with a great header before finding the back of the net for the second time with a teasing cross. Showed once again why he’s one of the Premier League’s top playmakers.

MF: Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea)

After impressing in his first Premier League start at Burnley last week, Hakim Ziyech was arguably even better in the 4-1 win over Sheffield United. Set up Mateo Kovacic in the build-up to Tammy Abraham’s equaliser before assisting goals for both Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva.

MF: Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)

Eberechi Eze was real standout star for Crystal Palace in the win over Leeds. Assisted Scott Dann’s opener with a fantastic corner before following that with his first Eagles goal by converting a brilliant free-kick. At just 22, there’s plenty more to come from the forward.

FW: Che Adams (Southampton)

With Danny Ings missing, strike partner Che Adams stepped up in the 2-0 win over Newcastle. Moments after being denied the opening goal, the 24-year-old scored his third goal in four matches with a well taken volley. Worked his socks off all evening and is growing in confidence at this level.

FW: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Ollie Watkins continued to show why Aston Villa gave him the opportunity to play in the Premier League with a two-goal show against Arsenal. The striker scored his first on 72 minutes before netting another three minutes later in an eye-catching 3-0 victory at the Emirates for Dean Smith’s side.
