Premier League Team of the Week

Premier League Team of the Week.

With the first round of Premier League fixtures underway (only eight fixtures), we choose our best XI following the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

GK: Vicente Guaita

Not known as one of the top goalkeepers in the league, but we cannot take anything away from Guaita’s performance on Saturday in Crystal Palace’s win against Southampton. The shot-stopper made five saves, the most of any keeper at the weekend.

RB: Reece James

Starting off your 2020/21 campaign did not come much better for Reece James, who worked his way into the Chelsea starting XI and repaid manager Frank Lampard with an assist and an absolutely sensational goal. His first in the Premier League.

CB: Gabriel

Another goalscoring defender finds our way into our team of the week, this time in the way of Arsenal new boy Gabriel. The defender, signed from Lille looked very comfortable in a 3-0 win and getting amongst the goals against Fulham.

CB: Romain Saiss

It’s a trend! Romain Saiss was one of the best players on the pitch in Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 victory away at Sheffield United. He defended very well and popped up with Wolves’ second goal.

LB: Timothy Castagne

To complete a clean sweep of goalscoring defenders Timothy Castagne was another player who scored on his club debut. The defender also capped off his goal with a very solid performance away at West Bromwich Albion, helping his side keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory.

CM: Jeff Hendrick

Newcastle United have quietly gone about their business this summer and made some decent signings. One of which was Jeff Hendrick who provided a goal and an assist as the Magpies comfortably beat the Hammers.

CM: James Rodríguez

It was a signing that really excited Everton fans, but it was difficult to know how James would play having not played regular football for so long. The outcome was the Colombian showed all his qualities creating five chances against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

CM: Abdoulaye Doucouré

Another Everton midfielder makes out list, in Abdoulaye Doucouré. The ex-Watford man was absolutely everywhere on Sunday and showed the Toffee fans what they could be seeing this season.

FW: Willian

Moving on to our frontline and there is another club debutant to mention. Ex-Chelsea man Willian made a surprise switch to North London this summer and repaid the club’s faith by providing two assists and hitting the post at the weekend.

FW: Mo Salah

Goals, goals, goals. That’s what Mo Salah brings and he produced three of them on Saturday as Liverpool overcame Premier League new boys Leeds United in a thrilling 4-3 victory.

FW: Raúl Jiménez

Mexican Raul JimEnez started 2020/21 where he left off last year, scoring for Wolves and being a constant threat to the opposition goal. Surely he has to be considered as one of the best strikers in the league.
