Saints manager Ronald Koeman will be back on the touchline – albeit on crutches – for this fixture after missing last weekend’s draw with Newcastle due to an Achilles injury.

On the pitch, new £5m midfielder Oriel Romeu may make his debut after signing from Chelsea this week. Fellow midfielder Jordy Clasie is unavailable, as are defenders Steven Caulker (illness) and Ryan Bertrand (knee), who is still a few weeks away from a return.

Everton haven’t won in their last six visits to St. Mary’s and received a blow this week with the news that Leighton Baines will be out for several months after ankle surgery.

In brighter news for the Toffees, Aiden McGeady, Mo Besic and Gerard Deulofeu are back in contention, whilst Kevin Mirallas may be fit despite being substituted with an injury in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Watford at Goodison Park.

New signing Mason Holgate, who was snapped up from Barnsley this week, may take his place in the Everton squad as he looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow Tykes graduate John Stones in the Toffees back four.
