Southampton were forced into an FA Cup third round replay with Norwich after Canaries forward Steven Naismith headed home a 92nd minute equaliser at Carrow Road last weekend.

Goals from centre-half Virgil van Dijk and Maya Yoshida looked to have got the Saints comfortably through to the fourth round, but Claude Puel will now has to add the replay to his already packed schedule.

Arsenal at home await whoever makes it through the replay at St. Mary’s on Wednesday night, a tie that will not scare Puel’s side, having already knocked the Gunners out of the EFL Cup this season at The Emirates.

The south coast side have been on a woeful run in the Premier League of late, with a 1-0 loss at Burnley on Saturday being their fourth league loss on the trot.

However, the cup has been a fine escape for Saints fans this season, with Puel’s side taking a 1-0 lead to Anfield next week in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

With a bad run in the league, however, the French manager will be considering some changes from the team that faced Burnley, here are THREE he needs to drop…

Fraser Forster

The England international is having a tough season. There have been some high profile slip ups and the former Celtic man looked less than comfortable at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Youngster Harry Lewis was given a chance against Norwich last time out but was at fault when giving away the penalty which was easily converted.

However, the young shot-stopper deserves another chance against Alex Neil’s men on Wednesday.

The Southampton academy graduate is a fan favourite on the south coast, but still has a lot to do in order to reach the levels many think he can.

Performances of late have not been exceedingly convincing meaning that his place could be up for grabs, with the likes of fellow youngster Harrison Reed desperate to impress.

Whilst it can’t be argued that the Ireland international is one of the hardest working players in the Premier League, his touch in front of goal has been missing this season.

Despite getting his first goal of the season against West Brom on New Year’s Eve, the former Reading and Hull man doesn’t look like he’s going to score soon and considering their record in front of goal this season, Saints cannot afford to wait for him to find form.
