Puel must scout these 3 players for Southampton over the international break

A two-week international break interrupts the domestic football calendar this fortnight, with World Cup qualifiers and friendly matches being played all over the world.

England return to action after a tricky few weeks, with interim manager Gareth Southgate taking charge for the first time at home to Malta on Saturday, before facing a potentially tricky away game in Slovenia the following Tuesday.

The two-week break also gives a number of Premier League managers time to assess their squads and reflect on their early season performances, which may lead some to scouting out potential signings ready for when the transfer window reopens on January 1.

Claude Puel of Southampton could be one of those managers.

The Saints have bounced back after a tricky start to the new season, winning two of their last three league games, as well as a victory and a draw in the Europa League.

New boss Puel may feel though that he needs a little bit more strength in depth, especially if his side get out of their Europa League group, so here are THREE players him and his team should keep an eye on during the international break…

Vedad Ibisevic

An experienced player who has been scoring goals for many seasons now, Vedad Ibisevic could seriously bolster Southampton’s forward options.

In Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez, the Saints have got strikers with a history of injury problems, so bringing in a more-than-able forward like Ibisevic would be invaluable.

The 32-year-old currently plays for Hertha Berlin, where he signed last summer, and has netted five goals in his last five Bundesliga matches, including a brace last weekend against Hamburg.

He has scored goals at every club he’s been at, and his experience of European competition should help a Southampton squad embarking on the Europa League for the first time in 12 years.

He’s part of a strong Bosnia and Herzegovina strike force for their tricky qualifiers against Belgium and Cyprus, and the Saints should look to keep an eye on Ibisevic’s performances in those two games.

Omar Bogle

Southampton have for long been a side willing to give youth players a chance in the team, just look at the amount of young British players in their squad.

As a result, they may want to have a look at Grimsby Town’s Omar Bogle, who has ripped up League Two since the Mariners’ promotion from the National League last season.

The 24-year-old has scored nine times in 11 league games, including crucial goals in the 1-0 wins over Mansfield Town and Newport County.

Vaclav Kadlec

Another young player who appears to have potential is 24-year-old forward Vaclav Kadlec, who played against the Saints for Sparta Prague in their Europa League meeting last month.

Kadlec made the move back to Sparta in the summer, and has already hit the ground running with three goals in his last four matches, including a brace in their impressive 3-1 win over Inter Milan.

A Czech Republic international who has been capped 13 times by his nation, he is likely to get minutes on the pitch in their qualifiers against Germany and Azerbaijan – Southampton should monitor his performance in those two games.
