Q&A with Sheffield Wednesday fan David Garrido

Instead of discussing our latest signings, results or things happening on and off the pitch, this week I decided to speak to lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan David Garrido.

Like me, and thousands alike, David has a blue and white heart and Hillsborough is our second home.

Furthermore, Sheffield Wednesday is not just a club we all support, it’s a club that makes up our personality. Energy, passion and enthusiasm are just some of the elements expressed by us fans at S6 and away from home.

Ultimately our love for the club will stay with us forever. Win, lose or draw we continue to back the chairman, manager and players in times of good and bad.

We all have our own stories, opinions and memories as Owls supporters. Sheffield Wednesday is the one thing we all have in common. I caught up with David to question him on the past, present and the future of Sheffield Wednesday.

Q: Why Sheffield Wednesday?
A: My Dad was taken to a SWFC game, fell in love, inflicted it on me at birth.

Q: Favourite childhood player?
A: Tough one – impossible to choose between David Hirst, Chris Waddle & John Sheridan.

Q: Current favourite player?
A: After that goal at Elland Road, Marco Matias. But Lewis McGugan is class and Kieran Lee always consistent, ditto Keiren Westwood.

Q: First ever SWFC match attended?
A: An unremarkable 0-0 draw at Highbury in the early 1990s.

Q: Best ever SWFC match attended?
A: Play-off final 2005!!!!

Q: Favourite SWFC moment?
A: It’s between Sheridan’s winner at Wembley in 1991 and Chris Waddle’s free-kick vs Sheff United back there two seasons later.

Q: Do you have a ‘second’ team who you look out for?
A: Not really!

Q: Over the years, your favourite SWFC home & away shirt?
A: 1991 home shirt and perhaps slightly strangely, our gold & purple third strip in the mid-90s. I like our current away kit too.

Q: Carvalhal. Quality, steady or poor appointment?
A: Steady appointment. Obviously Carlos was a bit of a surprise, but we need to give him time to implement his ideas.

Q: Chansiri. Trust or wary?
A: Trust. Absolutely. 100%. The man is serious about making this football club successful and taking us into the Premier League.

Q: Expectations this season?
A: Play-offs, perhaps. Definitely top 10.

Q: Where do you see Sheffield Wednesday in three years?
A: Fighting for promotion to the Premier League – unless we’re already there!
