Barry Ferguson looks set to join the coaching staff at Rangers after meeting with new manager Pedro Caixinha this week about a potential move back to Ibrox, as the Gers aim to put together backroom staff capable of helping the side end Celtic’s domestic success in the Scottish Premiership, according to the latest reports in the Scottish Sun.
Caixinha has always insisted he wants a man who knows the club and Scottish football to be part of his coaching staff, and Ferguson certainly fits the bill having played over 430 games for Rangers, skippering the side and recently spending two-and-a-half years as player-manager of Clyde.
Striker Kenny Miller had been linked with a coaching job at Ibrox, but Caixinha seems to be favouring Ferguson with former caretaker boss Graeme Murty remaining with the club, reverting back to his role as Under-20s coach.
Although nothing has been finalised yet, Ferguson could be named this week as Rangers look to get their staff in place as soon as possible.
The ex-midfielder won five Scottish league titles, five Scottish Cups and five Scottish League Cups during his two playing spells with Rangers.
