Real Madrid have completed the signing of left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.
The Spanish giants announced on Monday morning that they had finalised a deal to sign the full-back, with BBC Sport reporting that the La Liga side will pay a fee of £51.8 million for the player.
Cucurella is currently on international duty with Spain at the World Cup in Noth America, and he is expected to feature during their group stage opener against Cape Verde on Monday afternoon.
The defender will join Real Madrid after the tournament, though, with Real announcing that the player will sign a six-year contract in the Spanish capital.
Cucurella is a product of La Masie, the famed academy of Real Madrid’s bitter rivals, Barcelona.
He left the Catalan giants to join Getafe in 2020, having had loan spells with the latter, as well as fellow Spanish side Eibar.
After impressing for Getafe, he joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021 and, after one hugely impressive season on the south coast, moved to Stamford Bridge in 2022.
Since then, the Spain international has played more than 160 times for the Blues across all competitions, helping them to win both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup under Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea will be managed by former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso this season, with the ex-Liverpool man set to take charge at Stamford Bridge at the start of July.
Real, meanwhile, will have former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in charge after the Portuguese made a sensational return to the Bernabéu, and it appears that he has selected Cucurella as his first choice to bolster his squad at full-back.
Cucurella’s deal with Chelsea had been set to run until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, but the Spaniard will instead return to his homeland this summer.
