Manchester United will have to fend off interest from Italian giants Roma to land Benfica defender Victor Lindelof this summer, according to The Sunday Mirror.
The 22-year-old has been in fine form for the Portuguese heavyweights this season, starting 32 of their 34 Primeira Liga matches to help them win the title ahead of fellow giants Porto and Sporting Lisbon.
And manager Rui Vitoria will once again be hoping that Lindelof is at his best this afternoon when they face Vitoria de Guimaraes in the final of the Taca de Portugal, going for their third trophy of a sensational season for the club.
And this afternoon may well be Lindelof’s final game for Benfica, as both Jose Mourinho’s United and Serie A outfit Roma are reportedly targeting a move for the defender this summer.
The Red Devils have repeatedly been linked with the £15.3 million-rated defender (as per Transfermarkt) throughout the season, and almost agreed a deal back in January but to no avail.
However, with Mourinho under pressure to significantly improve their Premier League form next time round, signings are inevitable this summer, although they are reportedly not willing to pay the £35 million Benfica want for the centre-back.
Whereas Italian giants Roma are looking to get close to that figure to land the Sweden international, so it appears that both sides will go head-to-head to land the 22-year-old this summer.
