Manchester City’s 100% record was brought to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United at the Etihad.
The Hammers stunned the league leaders by going 2-0 up through goals from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho in the first half. Kevin De Bruyne pulled one back on the stroke of half-time on his first start, but City failed to find the equaliser.
Chelsea secured just their second win of the season with a 2-0 win over rivals Arsenal, who were reduced to nine men at Stamford Bridge. Gabriel saw red at the end of the first half for a kick at Diego Costa, before Kurt Zouma headed Chelsea in front early in the second half. Santi Cazorla then saw a red for a second yellow late in the game and Eden Hazard’s deflected strike sealed the points.
Manchester United closed the gap on City to two points with a 3-2 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s. Graziano Pelle put the home side ahead before an Anthony Martial goal in each half put the visitors in front. Juan Mata then gave United a cushion as he finished an incredible move that contained over 40 passes, but Pelle headed in a second late on to make for a nervy finish.
Watford secured their second successive win with a 2-1 triumph over Newcastle at St. James’ Park. Odion Ighalo netted a brace to put the visitors 2-0 up in the first half, and despite Daryl Janmaat pulling a goal back in the second, they were able to take all three points.
Leicester continued their unbeaten start to the season as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. Bojan put the hosts ahead in his first start in 2015, before Jon Walters doubled the lead. Riyad Mahrez pulled one back for the Foxes from the penalty spot before Jamie Vardy equalised midway through the second half.
West Brom won the Midlands derby with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park. Saido Berahino netted the only goal of the game in his first start since threatening to go on strike, as he deflected in James Morrison’s shot.
Bournemouth won their first Premier League game at home with a 2-0 triumph over Sunderland, leaving the Black Cats winless this season. Both goals came in the first ten minutes of the game, with Callum Wilson scoring the first before Matt Ritchie struck a stunning volley into the top corner. Dick Advocaat’s side’s hopes of a comeback were ended in the second half when Younes Kaboul was sent off for a second yellow card.
Liverpool’s stuttering start to the season continued as they drew 1-1 with Norwich at Anfield. Danny Ings came on to put the Reds ahead in the second half, before Russell Martin equalised for the Canaries.
Spurs won their second successive game this season with a 1-0 defeat of Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane. Son Heung-Min netted the only goal of the game – his first in the league – midway through the second half to down Alan Pardew’s men.
Swansea and Everton played out an entertaining goalless draw at the Liberty Stadium. Bafetimbi Gomis and Romelu Lukaku spurned chances for either side before Kevin Mirallas was sent off in stoppage time for Everton for a dangerous challenge.
