Saints target Celtic star

Southampton are reportedly considering a move for Celtic centre-half Virgil van Dijk.

Following the news that Romanian defender Florin Gardos will be ruled out for up to six to seven months with a knee injury earlier this week, the Saints are looking to make one or two defensive recruitments before the close of the transfer window.

It is understood that Dutch boss Ronald Koeman has made the Scottish Premiership’s Van Dijk his number one target this summer after missing out on the permanent signing of Toby Alderweireld to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Van Dijk, 24, scored an impressive 10 goals in 58 appearances in all competitions for Ronny Deila’s Celtic last season.
