Sunderland are reportedly interested in thrashing out a transfer deadline day deal for West Ham United defender Joey O’Brien, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League side, who currently lie four points adrift of safety in the bottom three, want the Ireland international to help the Black Cats stave off relegation this campaign.

The 29-year-old, who has six international caps for his country, has failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the Hammers so far this season.

O’Brien, who arrived at Upton Park from Bolton Wanderers back in July 2011, is reportedly a favourite of Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce who used to manage West Ham between 2011 and 2015.
