Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher has joined Ligue 1 outfit Marseille on loan until the end of the season.

The Scotland international, who has 22 international caps for his country, was allowed to leave the Stadium of Light earlier today after falling out-of-favour under manager Sam Allardyce this term.

The 28-year-old scored four goals in 16 league games for Sunderland this season, who currently lie four points adrift in the bottom three.

Fletcher, who has just six months remaining on his current contract, has played just ten times since Allardyce’s arrival at the Stadium of Light back in October.

Marseille were understood to be keen on bringing in the Scotland striker to partner Belgium international Michy Batshuayi for the remainder of the campaign.

He scored 23 goals in 108 games for Sunderland after arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August 2012.
