Shakespeare should drop these 3 Leicester City players against Atletico Madrid

Leicester City will have to come from behind on Tuesday night if they wish to advance into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, with Atletico Madrid holding a 1-0 first leg victory over the Premier League champions, ahead of Tuesday night’s second leg (19:45).

The Foxes, who drew 2-2 against Crystal Palace on Saturday in the top-flight, are the final British team in the European elite competition.

Meanwhile the La Liga visitors, who triumphed 1-0 back at the Vicente Calderon Stadium thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s first-half penalty, currently sit third in the Spanish top-flight standings, 10 points adrift of leaders Real Madrid.

For the hosts, captain Wes Morgan is set to face a late fitness test having missed his team’s last six matches because of a nerve problem (back).

But with Leicester trailing the quarter-final clash, manager Craig Shakespeare may opt to make numerous changes to his starting XI on Tuesday night, following their weekend stalemate at Selhurst Park.

Here are THREE players The Foxes boss should drop to defeat Diego Simeone’s visitors tonight…

Robert Huth

The first obvious call Shakespeare has to make is who is going to step in for defender Robert Huth, who is suspended for tonight’s clash.

With skipper Morgan back in contention, the 33-year-old’s return could be perfectly timed, though Huth will still be a huge blow for the hosts, after starring for Leicester at Palace on Saturday, including scoring the opening goal.

Yohan Benalouane was replaced by Ben Chilwell at Selhurst Park after coming off with cramp, but the fellow centre-half is expected to be fit for Atletico’s visit.

Leonardo Ulloa

The 30-year-old forward started just his second Premier League game of the season at Palace, and although the Argentine worked hard up front, his efforts came to little avail.

Having not started a Champions League fixture this term, Shakespeare is destined to replace Ulloa, with fellow forwards Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa and Shinji Okazaki all vying for a starting spot.

After just one goal in 21 appearances for The Foxes this campaign, Ulloa starting for Leicester on Tuesday night would be a big surprise.

Andy King

Another player who worked incredibly hard at Selhurst Park, but often found himself ineffective, was Andy King.

The central midfielder was substituted in the second-half for Danny Drinkwater, who in turn could be the man to replace the Wales international in tonight’s starting line-up.

Either that, or Shakespeare could opt to hand a start to winger Demarai Gray, with Leicester needing to go all out to progress even further in this year’s Champions League.
