Sheffield Wednesday reportedly want to bring in Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on an emergency loan deal.

The Championship club, who knocked Premier League outfit Newcastle United out of the League Cup last week, are hopeful of completing a loan move for the highly-rated 22-year-old before the weekend.

Lingard, who has been capped seven times for the England Under-21 squad, has failed to land a first-team spot at Old Trafford this term under manager Louis van Gaal.

The winger, who has only made one first-team appearance for the 13-time Premier League champions since 2012, has enjoyed similar loan spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Derby County in the past.

Carlos Carvalhal’s Owls currently sit 11th in the second-tier of English football, just three points outside the play-offs after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brentford.
