Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United continue to dominate the division and shock results in the F.A. Cup could be beneficial in their attempts to seal promotion to the Premier League this season.

Reading, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town are looking strong, but anyone from eleventh placed Preston North End and upwards could realistically still clinch a place in the end of season lottery.

Rotherham United appear cut adrift at the bottom of the standings, while both Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest appear to be being affected by on-going problems off the pitch.

Queens Park Rangers appear to be heading out of danger, while Burton Albion are making a real fight of things in their first season in the Championship.

Here is Shoot!’s Championship Player, Manager and Goal of the Month Awards for January…

Player of the Month: Chris Wood (Leeds United)

Leeds United are attempting to break back into the top-flight where many perceive they belong and they have a good chance this season.

It’s fair to say though that were it not for 25-year-old New Zealand forward Chris Wood, they wouldn’t be in with such a good chance of returning to the Promised Land.

His form in January has been nothing short of sensational – Wood has been responsible for 75 per cent of United’s league goals.

A brace against Rotherham, the crucial winner against play-off rivals Derby County and the opening goal in the win against Nottingham Forest all helped Leeds pick up points, and even when they weren’t winning, Wood still scored twice, in a 3-2 loss to Barnsley (the first defeat for United in which Wood had found the net).

If he can help carry them to promotion, Wood could go down in Elland Road folklore.

Manager of the Month: Jaap Stam (Reading)

While Brighton and Newcastle dominate the Championship, Reading are tucked in just behind them with Jaap Stam’s men ready to pounce, should Albion or the Magpies slip up.

A busy January saw the Royals play six games, but they picked up four key wins in that time.

They may be relying on other results to get into the automatic promotion places, but a play-off place looks a safe bet.

Goal of the Month: Souleymane Doukara (LEEDS UNITED v Nottingham Forest)

There was only one winner – Doukara’s phenomenal strike against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on January 25!

The 25-year-old, who replaced Stuart Dallas with 72 minutes on the clock, with Garry Monk’s side 1-0 up through Player of the Month Chris Wood, wrapped up all three points for the hosts with a world-class volley from 20 yards out.
