The division’s second highest goalscorer may not have scored the type of goal that his team-mate Steve Sidwell bagged against Bristol City, but his form has once again been key to ensuring Brighton are breathing down leaders Newcastle United’s neck.

The experienced forward is in his second spell at the south coast club having re-joined on loan from AFC Bournemouth in July, and he scored a vital 45th minute equaliser against Aston Villa.

He then grabbed the winner in a 2-1 victory against Fulham to help keep Brighton four points clear of third place Reading as we enter December.

Manager of the Month: Steve McClaren (Derby County)

The return of former England boss McClaren to Pride Park Stadium raised more than a few eyebrows when it was announced back in October, and he would have been eager to get some good results under his belt to quash the doubters.

He started solidly enough, but Derby’s form in November is certainly evidence to suggest that the Rams board have made the right decision.

An entertaining 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux was backed up with a comfortable 3-0 home victory against struggling Rotherham United.

Derby saved the best result until last though, picking up a vital three points against fellow play-off chasers Norwich City with a 1-0 win to leave County just three points off the top six.

On the evidence thus far, McClaren may well be back in the Premier League sooner than anyone expected.
