SHOOT’s Chelsea-Arsenal combined XI

Jorginho is a key player for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

Arsenal continue their tricky start to the new 2018-19 Premier League season as they visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening (17:30).

The Blues, who defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium in their league opener last Saturday, also have a new man in charge, former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.

Meanwhile The Gunners, who lost 2-0 to defending league champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday, have appointed ex-Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery as their new head coach following Arsene Wenger’s departure at the end of last season.

New Arsenal head coach Unai Emery.

The two Premier League sides went head-to-head in pre-season, with Emery’s Arsenal edging out Sarri’s Blues on penalties (6-5) after a 1-1 draw in Dublin, Ireland.

Ahead of this crucial clash tomorrow, SHOOT has put together our very own Chelsea-Arsenal combined XI…

Do you agree with our selection? Or, which player(s) do you think we have missed out?

Comment below with your tactical suggestions!

*The combined XI follows a traditional 4-3-3 formation and includes ALL players from either squad, regardless of whether they are injured or suspended in reality*

Goalkeeper: Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea)

The world’s most expensive goalkeeper of all-time, Kepa Arrizabalaga, gets the nod ahead of the likes of Arsenal’s Petr Cech and Bernd Leno.

The 23-year-old joined Chelsea for a whopping £71.6m from Athletic Bilbao earlier this summer, putting pen to paper on a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Arrizabalaga made his Blues bow against Huddersfield last weekend, and gave a confidence showing, as well as keeping a clean sheet. Encouraging start.

Though, Arsenal should trouble the Spaniard more this weekend!

Right-back: César Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

A very talented and versatile defender, Chelsea’s César Azpilicueta had to feature in our back four, in whatever position!

The 28-year-old has proved a smash hit signing following his reported £7m arrival from Marseille back in 2012, and has racked up 282 appearances in all competitions for the London outfit.

Last season, the Spaniard scored three goals in 52 matches.

Centre-back: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

Despite currently sat on the sidelines through injury, Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny would be named as the first of SHOOT‘s centre-halves, if he were fit.

Still valued highly at the Emirates, new head coach Emery has named the France international the club’s permanent captain this season, despite the 32-year-old being ruled out til the New Year with an Achilles injury.

Koscielny made 33 appearances in all competitions last term.

Centre-back: Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea)

Partnering Koscielny would be Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, a solid and stable centre-half.

The Germany international, 25, has played the full 90 minutes in both of The Blues’ competitive games under new boss Sarri so far this campaign, and he will be a key player under the Italian as he enters his prime years.

Rudiger scored three goals in 45 outings in all competitions in 2017-18.

Left-back: Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

Speculation has suggested Real Madrid want to sign this star, but Chelsea will be incredibly determined to keep hold of left-back Marcos Alonso beyond this month.

The 27-year-old is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, and was named in the 2017-18 PFA Premier League Team of the Year last term, after netting eight strikes and setting up four goals for The Blues.

He also assisted Jorginho’s penalty at Huddersfield last weekend.

Midfielder: Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

Another key player being linked with a move away from his club this summer is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey.

The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates, with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United understood to be closely monitoring his situation this campaign.

The Wales international started last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City, but was taken off after 54 minutes for striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Ramsey scored 11 goals and assisted 12 further strikes last season for The Gunners.

Midfielder: N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Sitting at the heart of SHOOT‘s midfield, and brilliantly protecting our last line of defence, would be Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.

The 27-year-old, a FIFA World Cup winner with France earlier this summer, scored The Blues’ first competitive goal of the season at Huddersfield last Saturday.

Midfielder: Jorginho (Chelsea)

One of the Premier League’s top summer transfers this summer, Chelsea’s new £57m addition Jorginho is named in our three-man midfield, too.

Having scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot at Huddersfield, the Italy international, 26, has hit the ground running for The Blues, after reportedly snubbing a move to Premier League champions Manchester City this summer.

Jorginho scored four goals and provided four assists in 39 outings for Serie A outfit Napoli last season.

Right forward: Pedro (Chelsea)

Moving onto our front three, and we kick start our frontline force with Chelsea winger Pedro.

A toss up between the Spaniard and Brazilian Willian, 31-year-old Pedro got the nod after also netting against Huddersfield last weekend.

The right winger scored seven goals in all competitions for The Blues last term, and signed a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Centre forward: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Spearheading SHOOT‘s attack is Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Many people’s tips for the Premier League Golden Boot award this season, the 29-year-old scored 10 league goals in just 13 outings for The Gunners last season following his club-record £56m transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the New Year.

Left forward: Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

And finally, including undoubtedly one of the best players in the Premier League, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard would be named on the left wing.

The 27-year-old, who helped Belgium defeat England in the third place play-off match at the World Cup finals in Russia earlier this summer, climbed off the bench to assist Pedro’s strike at Huddersfield last Saturday.

Hazard, who has been strongly linked with a mega money move to Real Madrid this summer, following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, scored 17 goals in all competitions for Chelsea in 2017-18.
