England face Tunisia inside the Volgograd Arena on Monday night (19:00) in their 2018 FIFA World Cup finals opener.

The Three Lions, who won the major tournament back in 1966, have also been drawn against Panama and Belgium in Group G.

It is understood that the England players have already been told their starting line-up by manager Gareth Southgate, with Harry Maguire, Ashley Young, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling all expected to start tomorrow night.

Tunisia and England last met in their opening group stage game of the 1998 World Cup, with the Three Lions prevailing 2-0 winners.

In fact, England have never lost against an African team at the World Cup in six meetings, winning three of those fixtures.

Anyway, enough of that, it is time to select our ideal England XI to face Tunisia in the hope of securing all three points.

We have gone for the 3-5-1-1 formation. Do you agree with our selection? Or, which player(s) do you think we have missed out?

Comment below with your tactical suggestions!

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford

Both Jack Butland and Nick Pope are very tempting options, giving manager Southgate a selection dilemma to name England’s No.1, but Everton’s Jordan Pickford would get the nod for SHOOT with his super shot stopping.

Right Centre-back: Kyle Walker

After a wonderful season with Premier League champions Manchester City, Kyle Walker looks set to start at right centre-back for the Three Lions on Monday night, and although it is an unfamiliar role for the primary right-back, the ex-Spurs stars is more than capable of shining in this position against Tunisia.

Centre-back: Harry Maguire

Having watched England at UEFA Euro 2016 just two years ago with his friends, we would chuck the Leicester City defender into the Three Lions’ starting XI for their World Cup opener just two years later.

Left Centre-Back: John Stones

A tough call between Gary Cahill and John Stones, but Manchester City man Stones edges out the Chelsea player with his great ability on the ball and passing skill.

Right Wing-Back: Kieran Trippier

Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoying a stellar season with Liverpool, Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier is still our preferred right wing-back, and his relationship with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane further afield could prove profitable.

Right Attacking Midfielder: Raheem Sterling

Perhaps in a slightly deeper role than expected, Raheem Sterling would be our right attacking midfielder, behind the front two. The 23-year-old winger scored 23 goals in all competitions for Manchester City last term.

Central Midfielder: Jordan Henderson

Sitting much deeper, as England’s central holding midfielder, is Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson. Largely underrated and criticised, the 28-year-old does the basics of the game well and edges out Spurs’ Eric Dier to make SHOOT‘s starting XI, offering our defence some added steel.

Left Attacking Midfielder: Dele Alli

Partnering Sterling as another attacking midfielder, on the left-hand side, Tottenham ace Dele Alli will be looking to take the World Cup by storm this summer in Russia, after a relatively under-par campaign for Spurs, despite still netting 14 goals in all competitions for the Premier League club.

Left Wing-Back: Ashley Young

On the far left-flank, Manchester United’s versatile star Ashley Young displaces full-back Danny Rose, with the 32-year-old possessing a great delivery and ability to beat a player.

Striker: Marcus Rashford

If fully fit, we would love to see Marcus Rashford play as a No.10/striker, behind the out-and-out centre forward. The 20-year-old forward has endured a frustrating start-stop campaign at Manchester United, but he can take centre stage for England, just like his stunning strike against Costa Rica earlier this month.

Centre Forward: Harry Kane

And finally, of course star striker Harry Kane made SHOOT‘s starting XI! The Tottenham hero scored 41 goals in all competitions in 2017-18, and captains the Three Lions in Russia this summer.
